California Mobile Farmers’ Market Coalition

Building A Nourishing Food System on Wheels

The California Mobile Farmers’ Market Coalition (CMFMC) is a state network of non-profit organizations who operate or plan to operate a mobile farmers’ market program. The CMFMC creates a space for operators to learn from each other, share resources, and advocate for effective and equitable solutions to food insecurity.

We’re currently serving Butte, Contra Costa, Marin, San Francisco, Santa Clara, Santa Barbara, and Yolo counties!

A mobile farmers market is an essential and equitable solution to healthy food access. Although the CMFMC understands that all communities have unique needs, the main components of a mobile market program include supporting the local food economy by purchasing from local farmers and prioritizing the food preferences of the community whenever possible. Mobile farmers’ markets operate with the goal to serve areas that otherwise don’t have access to fresh, locally grown, nutritious food.

Agricultural Institute of Marin,
Operating in Marin County & San Francisco County

The Rollin’ Root is essentially a farmers market on wheels delivering a host of farm-fresh produce to Marin County and San Francisco residents who otherwise might not have access to affordable, nutritious fruits and vegetables. Currently, Novato, San Rafael, Marin City, West Marin and San Francisco have existing stops on the Rollin’ Root’s route. Their mission is to increase equitable access to fresh, healthy food grown on local farms and to provide nutrition education in underserved communities.

CalFresh participants who use their EBT card at The Rollin’ Root are eligible to receive 50% off their purchase of fruits & vegetables through Market Match. The Rollin’ Root also accepts Senior Bonus Bucks, which are $10 coupons for free fruits and vegetables issued to qualifying older adults ages 60+ who participate in the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program.

Butte County Local Food Network,
Operating in Butte County

The Butte County Local Food Network Farmers Marketmobile sells locally grown and produced food. They currently support 26 small family farms in Butte County. In addition, other small business owners are able to take advantage of the Marketmobile’s presence by providing their goods and services alongside us and keeping money in the communities we serve. The intention of the program is to celebrate farmers and make healthy, organic and clean, locally grown food more easily available to people in food deserts in Butte County. Its mission is to expand the reach of our local farmers who grow food for the community while getting highly nutritious food closer to those who need it. Currently, they have stops in Concow, Magalia and Forest Ranch, but they’re hoping to expand to Cohasset and Paradise.

They also have a $15 market match for folks with EBT/CalFresh!

Center for Land-Based Learning,
Operating in Yolo County

The Mobile Farmers Market (MFM) is the cornerstone the Community Food Program, designed to connect the urban farms in our Farm Business Incubator with the residents of their communities. The truck brings fresh, culturally relevant produce to neighborhoods with little access, creating a win-win for both farmers and community members. The farmers have a ready and willing customer base, and our customers get convenient access to healthy food grown right in their neighborhood.

The MFM is helping to reduce both financial and physical barriers to food access. To better serve low-income customers, the MFM accepts SNAP benefits and provides a double-up bucks program through Market Match so that anyone who qualifies can get $20 in produce for just $10.

Fresh Approach,
Operating in Contra Costa County & Santa Clara County

Our Mobile Farmers’ Market makes it possible for local farms and urban growers to sell in communities that would otherwise lack access to their fresh seasonal produce, while helping small farmers diversify their sales through guaranteed weekly orders for our two trucks. When you shop at any of our mobile farmers’ market stops, you’re helping support a robust local food system that promotes sustainability, equity, and responsible stewardship in agriculture.

All of the fresh, seasonal produce from our mobile farmers’ markets is affordably priced, and we offer a 50% discount to market shoppers who participate in the CalFresh (SNAP), WIC, SSI/SSDI, Medi-Cal/Medicaid, low income, membership at a food pantry, and Unemployment programs!

Route One,
Operating in Santa Barbara County

In Fall of 2022, Route One launched the first ever mobile market in Santa Barbara county. The mission of the mobile market is to increase access to fresh, locally grown produce within Lompoc and its surrounding communities. Nearly all produce sold at our mobile market is sourced from Lompoc Valley farmers. The mobile market provides our smaller scale farmers an additional opportunity to connect with the community and sell their goods.

The Mobile Market happily accepts EBT, and also offers a 50% discount on all produce through Market Match. This program helps us continue our mission to build a healthier and happier Lompoc.
