We recognize that the current food system does not provide equal access to healthy foods. Certain communities are denied healthy foods because of unavailability, inaccessibility, high cost, and undesirability. We strive to create an equitable food system by directing resources toward those who have been denied access to healthy, fresh, culturally relevant foods.
Instead of focusing on equal access to healthy food, we acknowledge that there are certain communities that have unique challenges accessing food. Therefore we focus resources on those communities, investing more heavily in areas of greatest need, in an effort to leveling the playing field.
